Westwind Hussar vs Enduro 40: Which Panniers Actually Fit Your Riding?
If you've spent any time on Westwind Moto's site, you've probably landed on both of these and wondered which one you actually need. They look similar at first glance โ same brand, same rugged aesthetic, same IPX6 waterproof rating โ but they're built for genuinely different riding styles. We ride with guides across six countries who use both setups, so here's the real breakdown.

The short version
- Hussar Panniers Set โ semi-rigid, structured, rack-mounted. Built for long-distance touring where you want your gear organized and protected like a suitcase.
- Enduro 40 (+ Duffle) โ rackless, soft, lightweight. Built for enduro and off-road-heavy trips where weight and flexibility matter more than rigid structure.
Neither is "better." They're built for different days on the bike.
Hussar Panniers Set โ the specs
The Hussar is Westwind's flagship semi-rigid pannier. The bottom, sides, front, and back are reinforced with industrial-grade PP boards, so the pannier holds its shape even half-empty โ it won't collapse against your leg on a rough section like a soft bag can.
- Capacity: 28L, 30L, or 35L per side depending on the version
- Material: 1680D TPU fabric, IPX6 waterproof
- Weight: approx. 8.4kg for the set
- Mounting: Westwind's patented "Harness" system onto an aluminum backplate โ quick-release clips let you pull the whole pannier off without removing the rack
- Expandable: RW3 side pouches add extra capacity when needed
- Compatibility: fits most tubular side racks, including the BMW R1300GS, in standard and offset (exhaust-dodge) versions
This is the setup for riders doing multi-day road-and-gravel touring who want their gear to stay put, stay dry, and stay organized in the same spot every night.

Enduro 40 + Duffle โ the specs
The Enduro 40 is part of Westwind's Rackless Ranger Wilds line, and it's a completely different philosophy: no rigid side racks, no heavy backplate โ just soft 20L drybags mounted on a lightweight RW-Base that straps directly to the bike.
- Capacity: 20L + 20L on the sides, plus 2x 3L MOLLE pouches. Add the D18/D30 duffle or the Heavy Cavalry 30 Duffle on the center rack and total capacity jumps to 58โ70L
- Material: 1680D TPU + Hypalon reinforcement, IPX6 waterproof
- Weight: approx. 4.2kg for the base set โ roughly half the Hussar's weight
- Mounting: rackless, strap-based, with model-specific mounting kits available for KTM, Husqvarna, CF Moto, Kove, and others
- Best for: enduro, technical off-road, and adventure riders who fall โ or expect to โ and don't want to write off an expensive rigid pannier when it happens
The rackless design matters more than it sounds like on paper. On tight, technical terrain, a pannier that flexes on impact instead of cracking against a rock is the difference between a scratch and a broken side case.

Which one should you actually buy?
If most of your riding is paved roads, forest gravel, and multi-day touring where you're checking into a different place each night and want to grab your bag and walk โ Hussar. The structure and the quick-release harness make it genuinely easier to live out of.
If you're riding technical trails, doing enduro-style routes, or your trip involves the kind of terrain where dropping the bike is part of the plan โ Enduro 40. Less weight on the bike, less to break, and the duffle option gives you real touring capacity when you need it without permanently adding the bulk of rigid cases.
A lot of our guides actually run both, depending on the tour โ Hussar for the Dolomites and Croatia routes, Enduro 40 for anything through Slovenia's Julian Alps or Morocco's off-road sections.
